As was the common practice in most European countries marriage of 1st cousins was quite common. It was practiced in the United states untill the late 1700's early 1800's when it became against the law to marry anyone closer in relation than a 2nd cousin. Carl Pagel and Emily Pagel were husband and wife when they came to the united states. They were also 1st cousins. As closely as we can tell, Henry, August and another brother came to the USA with their families around 1860. It was said that they came thru the great lakes porbably debarking at Chicago. If this was the case then we may never have an acurate record of their arival. Most imigrants comming to Chicago, Milwaukee or Sheboygan had already declared there destination at Detroit or New York and Detroit did not keep records. Castle Gardens records are hard to obtain and most of the imigrants came thru Castle Gardens prior to the opening of Ellis Island.
They settled in Wisconsin, in the area of Ogdensburg and stayed there most of their lives.
